colour & paint

I notice that as I go from observation to paint I have a tendency to dial up the chromatic intensity. As a result my works lies in a space between perceptual fidelity and emotional intuition. It has to ‘feel’ right.
My practice is not just line and colour-based however. I am also very interested in texture and transparency.

Impressionist Techniques & Beyond

I have great admiration for the artists of this period in history. They dove into curiosity and further exploration of a medium that had been in use for hundreds of years. With the advances in paint manufacturing, chemistry and optics all happening simultaneously. I truly enjoy studying the techniques and doing experimentations of my own.

Colour Charts

I chart colour and paint in order to understand. I need to play and explore in order to understand.

What initially began as a way of describing things for my students has become integrated into my practice.
