"Man is the sole animal whose nudity offends his own companions, and the only one who, in his natural actions, withdraws and hides himself from his own kind."
I don't want it to look like it's raining. I want it to feel like it's raining.
Ireland has some of the most beautiful weather-scapes I've ever seen. Our skies are so interchangeable and nuanced. I want the viewer to feel as if they are not simply looking at but actually experiencing the scene before them.
“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
~ Friedrich Nietzsche
"Felis catus is your taxonomic nomenclature,
An endothermic quadruped, carnivorous by nature;
Your visual, olfactory, and auditory senses
Contribute to your hunting skills and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations,
A singular development of cat communications
That obviates your basic hedonistic predilection
For a rhythmic stroking of your fur to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents;
You would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance.
And when not being utilized to aid in locomotion,
It often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behavior you display
Connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array.
And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend,
I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend."

Head, heart, hand
Clear to understand
If you don't think about it
Head to hand
Can end in bland
Contrived and often rigid
Is just a drone
Directionless and waiting
Head and heart
Yes that is art
But stuck inside debating
Heart and hand
Freedom but what expression
So you see
Only all three
Complete the art equation
A train of thought brought me
to an imaginary station
A plaftorm to observe my life
Indulge brain mastication
To consider life if only
With a slightly different flavour
Philosophical musings of
A hippy dippy nature
“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely."
~ Roald Dahl
We aren't born into this world
Just knowing who we are
To stand in front of jury's
Defensive, set the bar
A rule book or a web we weave
Defining our position
Why be so rigid when everyday
Is alone your decision
To dress, to talk, to play, to be
A certain type of thing
But done without attachment
And the suffering that brings
Life is not about
Solidifying your existence
Proving worth and selling it
A human experience
To long and to belong is fine
It's good for our survival
Every single one of us
Has moments of denial
Following your viscera
With integrity each day
Unravel and demystify
Discovery and play
"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
~ Henry David Thoreau
A commission can be most difficult. Why? Because the patron wants a piece of you and yet you work tirelessly to give them a piece of them.
The brush strokes, the colour, the tempo, these choices give insight into the mind of another. If you allow yourself you can temporarily become that person. Breathe with them as they discover every nuance of the face or landscape.
It is possible to analyse a piece for its skill and message. But this is not what I look for. I look for the emotion, it is the nectar. It can be found in the blending of colours or the sweep of a line or in a frenzy of shapes. Once you find it explanation is no longer necessary.
Being moved by a piece of art is like embodying the artist in that moment.
You get to feel.
“Home isn't a place, its a feeling”
~ Cecelia Ahern
